D. Tyrell McGirt is the Director of Parks and Recreation with the City of Pelham. He leads a department of over 30 full-time and part-time employees and is responsible for the departments administrative, operations, programming, and park maintenance functions. He is a certified Parks and Recreation professional with over 18-years industry experience. D. Tyrell was previously employed as the Parks and Recreation Deputy Director with the Town of Marana, a suburban municipality outside Tucson, Arizona. Before that he served as Director of the Department of Parks, Culture and Recreation with the City of Unalaska, a small rural community in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. D. Tyrell specializes in improving efficiencies, growing programs, and developing industry professionals. Additionally, D. Tyrell has successfully collaborated with contractors and engineers on several park projects, reviewed commercial and residential development plans for recreation amenities, and served as lead on a recreation master plan process. D. Tyrell received his Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina A & T State University where he majored in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. His graduate degree work is in Public Administration with a concentration in Natural Resource Policy at the University of Alaska Southeast. He is married to Carla Crews-McGirt.
