Gardening- Fall Gardening

Location: Outdoors at pavilion behind Rec Center

This class looks at assessing your garden and/or yard to get ready for winter and plan for spring.  Participants will identify tasks, learn about fall planting options, focus on a fall gardening project, and develop a mini-landscaping plan for the project. The class will be led by a Shelby County Master Gardener. Online or in-person registration: August 23- September 10

Gardening- Make a Winter Hummingbird Feeder 

Day: Saturday                                                             

Date: September 18

Cost: $3.00/child                                            

Time: 9:30am-10:30am

Age: 5-12 with adult                                      

Location: Outdoors at pavilion behind Rec Center

Most people do not know that hummingbirds can stay in our area during the winter if they have food.  Participants will make a hummingbird feeder, mix their own hummingbird food, and become a part of making Pelham a winter home for hummingbirds. The class will be led by a Shelby County Master Gardener. Online or in-person registration: August 23- September 15

Gardening- Getting Ready for a Spring Garden 

Day: Monday                                                   

Date: November 8

Cost: $3.00/person                                         

Time: 5:45am-6:45pm

Age: 15+                                                         

Location: Outdoors at pavilion behind Rec Center

This class looks at dreaming, scheming, and planning a spring garden. Its focus will be on people with limitations who may think they can’t garden but will be beneficial for all who want to plan a beginning garden for the spring.  Participants will assess their abilities, identify a garden plot (which can include raised beds), identify tools needed, select appropriate plantings, and start some vegetable seeds indoors for the winter. Online or in-person registration: August 23- November 4

Owls In The Oaks- Oak Mountain State Park 

Day: Friday                                                      

Date: October 29

Cost: $3.00/person (includes your park gate fee)     

Time: 5:30pm-6:30pm

Age: All ages                                                  

Location: Oak Mountain

Whooooooooo's been flying around at night making a ruckus? Find out at Owls in the Oaks! Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the show! Don't forget your camera because you'll be meeting LIVE OWLS up close from the Alabama Wildlife Center!
