Are you an experienced professional looking to advance your career in municipal services? We invite you to join our team as an Operator II at our municipal sewer plant. This role offers the opportunity to work with systems and technologies, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our community's wastewater treatment facilities. As an Operator II, you will operate sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage. This postion also performs related work as required according to city practices and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.

- Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage.
- Ensures equipment is working properly. Cleans and maintains clarifiers, filters, UVs and rotors.
- Repairs and fixes broken sewer lines and frees obstructions.
- Performs sewer inspections and marks sewer lines and laterals.
- Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine load requirements.
- Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
- Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings.
- Collects sewage sample and conducts laboratory tests to ensure compliance with ADEM permit. Prepares samples for outside testing.
- Calibrates Oxygen and PH meters.
- Operates and maintains power generating equipment.
- Checks lift station pump run times and alarms to ensure proper functioning.
- Cuts grass and sprays weeds as necessary at lift stations and treatment plant as needed.
- Maintains mobile generators and dry prime pumps.
- Maintains sewer lines and pumps at all city facilities.
- Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with others.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED plus one-month related experience and/or training in addition to Grade II Wastewater Certification.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid Alabama Driver’s License
- Grade II Wastewater Certification
Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $43,598.00 - $59,420.00 depending on experience. The City of Pelham also offers an excellent benefits package and participates in the Retirement Systems of Alabama.
