[ARCHIVED] 2nd Annual Paws in the Park

Paws in the Park

2nd Annual Paws in the Park – March 20, 2022, 2:00 -5:00 p.m. – Pelham City Park

**UPDATED 3/11/22 with new information on food trucks and other details.

Have fun with your furry friend, mingle with other dog lovers and help make a difference for local animals at the 2nd Annual Paws in the Park.

This free, family-friendly event will be held Sunday, March 20 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Pelham City Park.  Grab a bite to eat from one of the food trucks, and enjoy live music by Katherine Fowler Moore. Children will love the all-new Kids Zone with inflatables, crafts, and face painting provided by the Pelham High School Art Club.

We expect over 20 vendors with booths featuring dog grooming services, pet supplies, local businesses, glass art, and many more.

Additional entertainment will be provided by Mariann Jackson’s agility and trick dog demonstration, plus a special appearance again this year by Vivienne Claire, Pug Extraordinaire.

**JUST CONFIRMED** Food trucks onsite will include Cousins Maine Lobster, Hey Bebe and Treats.

Shelby Humane Society will offer walk-up vaccinations for a small fee, and will have adoptable dogs on site.

“Last year was our first year and we had a ton of visitors in the park. We had 14 vendors and offered drive-up pet vaccinations due to COVID. We also collected a lot of pet food through donations to help support the Pelham Pet Pantry. Our goal this year is to continue to work with Pelham Pet Pantry and help this great cause right here in Pelham,” said Alicia Walters, Assistant Director of Pelham Parks and Recreation.

Pelham Pet Pantry is a non-profit local group that strives to make sure no pet goes hungry in Pelham and Shelby County.  “Many people in our area are food insecure, meaning their pets are too,” said Shelia Montgomery, one of the founders of the Pelham Pet Pantry. She started the outreach in December 2019 from an idea she had while cleaning her garage with Rachel LaMonte. “We were clearing a shelf and we thought about what someone would do if they couldn’t feed their pets.  After a little research on food insecurity, the Pelham Pet Pantry opened on that empty shelf.”  Today, pet owners can simply call or text Montgomery at (205) 965-3883, or send a message through the group’s Facebook page to get help.  Pelham Parks and Recreation is collecting dog and cat food donations at the Pelham Recreation Center from March 1 – 16.  You can also donate on the day of the event at the pavilion by the sand volleyball courts at the Park.  Paws in the Park will feature the Pet Pantry Walk, where all proceeds benefit the organization.

“We encourage all to come out and enjoy the event, with or without a dog. We do ask pet owners to please bring leashed, well-mannered dogs to this event,” added Walters.

For more details on the event, or vendor information, please email Alicia Walters, or call (205) 621-4773.
