We're seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Golf Superintendent to join our team and help maintain the exceptional quality of our golf course. The ideal candidate will have a passion for golf course management, a keen eye for detail, and a strong understanding of turfgrass science and maintenance practices. As Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, you will assist the Golf Course Superintendent in coordinating the activities of workers engaged in preserving and maintaining grounds and turf of golf course in playing condition. Representative Duties and Responsibilities:  The list is not intended to be all-inclusive nor exclusive but is intended to provide examples of typical duties performed.

  • Trains and supervises staff for the purpose of maintaining the golf course and clubhouse grounds.  
  • Determines work priority and assigns workers to specific tasks such as mowing, raking and debris clean up. 
  • Assists in keeping complete records on weather data, maintenance procedures, liquid and granular applications. 
  • Mixes all forms of liquid and granular products under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent. Also applies these products as needed to the golf course and club grounds.
  • Directs and assists workers engaged in maintenance, critical duties, and repair of mechanical equipment. 
  • Manages projects as scheduled by Superintendent. 
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and long days during peak season. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with others.

Education/Experience: 

  • High School degree and two years of experience required in a turf care related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.   
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in a turf care related field of study preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: 

  • Pesticide Applicator License required.
  • Alabama driver’s license required to drive golf carts.

 Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Supervises full time and part-time employees depending on the season, shift, event, and other activities going on at the golf course.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. 

Compensation: Compensation for this position is $41,921.00 - $57,134.00, based on education and experience. Applicant must also satisfactorily pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen after receiving conditional offer of employment. The City of Pelham offers an excellent benefits package.
